Okay, I can see that everyone is being TOO technical here, and I don't think that it was that type of a question - I believe that at times there isn't a difference between a step-daughter and a daughter-in-law at times because it IS possible to become quite close to your mother-in-law, and become a sort of extra daughter, just as a step-daughter can become. If I get married to a man with a child that would be my step-daughter or if I had a daughter and got re-married then she would be my husbands step-daughter. When you get married and have a son when he gets married his wife will become your daughter-in-law or when your daughter gets married your son-in-law's mother will become your daughter's mother-in-law and your daughter will be daughter-in-law to her husbands mother As I understand it: In-laws are, collectively, added to your family via an existing marriage relationship: a man might not genetically be your uncle, but being married to your mom's sister makes him technically a relative IN the eyes of the LAW. There are exceptions, however: an adopted child is your daughter, even though she is related only through a legal agreement there's love involved, too, but we're being technical at the moment.
